There are a whole load of reasons I'm opposed to the death penalty, ranging from not wanting the UK government whom I mistrust greatly over civil liberties to have that kind of power to the most major one in my eyes that if a mistake is made it cannot be corrected.
Still the coalition did make a rod for its own back when it announced any e-petition getting over a 100,000 signatures would have a chance to be debated in parliament and so various newspapers dusted off their pet projects and went for it so to speak. The Express are trying to force a debate on having a referendum on the EU which is bad timing as far as I can see and would have worked 2 years ago but today with the EU having amassed a gigantic fighting fund there's a possibility that they might bribe their way out of a defeat. MPs face being forced into a landmark vote on restoring the death penalty.
Capital punishment is expected to be the first subject debated by Parliament under an e-petitions scheme.
The initiative allows the public to help set the government agenda and means anyone can set up an internet petition on any subject. If it attracts more than 100,000 signatures, MPs must consider debating it in the Commons.
The scheme is officially launched today, but it has already backfired on the Coalition because Right-wing internet bloggers have been collecting signatures for the last few days.
The restoration of hanging for the murderers of children and policemen is by far the most popular serious issue.

Don't get me wrong here, I do believe that some people are an utter waste of oxygen like Huntley and Sutcliffe and not worth the cost of housing and feeding at our expense at her Majesties pleasure, but I also think that about most politicians too. Recent history is awash with certain crimes later having proved on appeal that the person convicted actually didn't do it, we probably would have hung the originally convicted Birmingham pub bombers for instance.
Capital punishment is not an area in which we can afford to get things wrong, there is no room for a jury to use reasonable doubt, if there is any I can see some juries unwilling to give guilty verdicts, then again perhaps not, you never can tell with ordinary people.
In the end though, it wont matter, EU and ECHR laws will not permit our MP's to bring back the death penalty. Though as an opening move to get us thrown out of the EU it does have some merit. Still, I do hope it's quashed, those who would have this power cannot be trusted with it.

I blogged recently on the right of homeowners/tenants to defend themselves against those who would choose to break into their properties, seems the circumstances of the people arrested who weren't the actual thieves has hit a nerve somewhere in the government.

USING “whatever force necessary” to repel a burglar means that stabbing them or hitting them with a poker won’t be a criminal offence, Justice Minister Ken Clarke said yesterday.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Clarke said that under plans to clarify the law on self-defence “we will make it quite clear you can hit a burglar with a poker if he’s in your house and you have a perfect defence when you do so.

“If an old lady finds she’s got an 18-year-old burgling her house and she picks up a kitchen knife and sticks it in him, she has not committed a criminal offence, and we will make that clear.”

Mr Clarke has come under attack over what was seen as his soft stance on sentencing.

He accepted the defence of reasonable force already exists, but said: “Given that doubts are expressed, we are going to clarify that. What people are not entitled to do is go running down the road chasing them or shooting them in the back when they are running away or to get their friends together and go and beat them up.

“We all know what we mean when we say a person has an absolute right to defend themselves and their home with reasonable force.”

“Nobody should prosecute and nobody should ever convict anybody who takes these steps.”

 So what is reasonable force? Well the government and the laws view seems to be that you can only defend yourself if your assailant or other villain is facing you, the minute they run away it's no longer reasonable force. My idea of reasonable force is that anyone who breaks into my home or threatens me and mine should never be given an opportunity to do the like again and if that means chasing them down the road whilst shooting them in the back, then that strikes me as fairly reasonable. Suspect from the comments I got that my position isn't that unreasonable to most who read my stuff and if anything is a little mild. To me (and others) the minute you illegally enter a premises with the intention of breaking the law, then whatever rights you have, have gone out of the window and God help you if you run away, the only option you have should be surrender because running away means you might come back later so makes you fair game.

Too many of our politicians and lawmakers and enforcers don't really live in the real world where there is an ongoing problem with crime, they live in nice communities away from the reality of living with the fear of attack or robbery. Perhaps if they hadn't spent so much time disarming us (for our our own protection) and gave us more control over our lives and safety, we wouldn't be talking about this.

As it is, I really don't see anything in Ken Clarke's statement that gives me cause to rejoice, he's just stated the law as it stands and hasn't given any guarantees that people wont be arrested simply for defending themselves, until the law is changed to remove the "reasonable" force clause, then this I'm afraid is simply just soundbite policy on the hoof.

Give us the right to really defend ourselves, then perhaps I might just change my mind about what is and isn't reasonable.

I'm a great believer in people getting their just deserts when it comes to criminals, too many have had their lives made a misery so it's good to see that occasionally there's a bit of payback in the grand scheme of things.

A knife-wielding robber's attempt to rob an off-license shop in Devon is thwarted by the owner's dog. 

Eve Watson, 55, and her six-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Cane, took on the intruder after he jumped over the counter with a Stanley knife demanding money from the till.

The shop owner fought back by grabbing a nearby craft knife, telling the robber, "so you like to play with knives, do you".

Mrs Watson then grappled with the robber and managed to pull down his hood, exposing his face to the CCTV cameras in the shop.

Her dog then joined in, biting the man between his legs before the intruder fled the shop empty-handed.

Well this day just keeps on getting better and better, amazingly enough she wasn't arrested for having a dangerous dog, nor was the dog dragged off to be put down.

Devon and Cornwall police praised Mrs Watson for her bravery and have now launched an appeal to find the culprit.

He is described as a white male, aged 23 to 25 with fair hair who has a thin, acne marked face and was wearing jeans and dark trainers.

Hopefully walking with a pronounced limp and unable to sire any children either (well we can hope)

A lot of people when they read the newspapers in the dead tree press and online will simply skim the headlines and only read what they want too. Headline writers know this and will attempt to grab peoples attention by making the headline punchy or relevant to their viewers.
Occasionally though they'll get it wrong or deliberately misleading.

Charlene focus of quiet peace vigil

Now this has to do with Charlene Downes who went missing in Blackpool after allegedly being groomed by a paedophile gang and then murdered and her body fed into a mincing machine to be sold as kebabs.
save only that this "peace vigil" had nothing to do with Charlene save in the abstract that the vigil was about opposing those who were calling for justice for Charlene.

ANTI-FASCISM protesters today mounted a “peace vigil” as the English Defence League (EDL) demonstrated close by on Blackpool Promenade.

The different protests were keptmore than a mile apart by police who mounted a huge security operation to ensure public safety.

While the larger EDL rally was held near south pier, the smaller anti-fascism rally gathered on the headland by central pier.

Weyman Bennett, national secretary for Unite Against Fascism (UAF), said: “We’re here because we believe these organisations are exploiting a tragedy to politically profit and we want to make it clear we reject racism and fascism and anyone who tries to divide our society.

“At a time of economic crisis we do not want to see right wing groups attacking people.

There were 8 arrests that day, mostly to do with drunk and disorderly, no-one was attacked, no violence and the march was about justice, not racism (Islam is not a race) nor fascism the EDL aren't fascist nor are they right wing for that matter, the EDL is not a political party, nor is it a political organisation, it classifies itself as a Human Rights Organisation. It has no political ideology at all and campaigns only against Islamification and unfettered immigration. Whilst the cause of, and answer to, Islamification and unfettered immigration is political, so is the cause and answer to high fuel prices and food prices yet the motoring organisations and charities campaigning against those aren’t given left/right wing political labels.
So the UAF were simply there to oppose the EDL, not support Charlene in any way shape or form. In fact I'd take this further and state that the UAF by opposing a protest over Charlene Downes and Islamic paedophile grooming gangs run out of Blackpool's take away shops have  sided with the paedophile networks in the area.

At least 60 schoolgirls were groomed for sex by workers at seedy takeaways linked to the murder of a 14-year-old girl.

Children as young as 11 were targeted by mainly Asian staff at fast food outlets in Blackpool. They were offered food, alcohol and cigarettes in return for sexual favours.

An unpublicised police report produced after 14-year-old Charlene Downes vanished in 2003 found the girls, most if not all white, had been victims of the ‘honey pot’ premises. There were claims last night that the report was suppressed for reasons of political correctness.

By opposing the protest this is what the morally bankrupt left wing UAF were standing in support of.

There is a problem in the Pakistani Muslim community and it isn't just that they are Muslims. For years now the some of the young men in that community have been preying on and grooming under age girls from outside their community, not just white, but Sikh and Hindu girls as well. Finally the MSM had the courage to break the story and various other minions of the state poked their heads above the parapet to tell us yes they knew about it, but dared not report it further because it might be deemed "racist" if they did. So you'd think the Muslim community as a whole would be keeping their heads down and coming out with various platitudes such as "it's only a minority" and doing their best to use the term "Asian" rather than "Muslim" or "Pakistani" like most of their useful idiots on the left and in the MSM have been doing, though the Muslim talent for public relations and how to get it totally wrong is utterly astounding.

BRITAIN'S first Muslim peer last night attacked arranged first-cousin marriages for contributing to a spate of sex crimes committed by Pakistani men.

Lord Ahmed of Rotherham said the marriages were being used by depraved young men as an excuse to prey on “vulnerable girls”.

His comments follow a succession of court cases where Asian men have been prosecuted for targeting white teenage girls.

The Labour peer, who wants an end to cousin marriages, claimed Asian men target their victims at a young age because they feel there is less chance of getting caught.

He said: “They are married to girls from overseas who they don’t have anything in common with and they have children and a family but they are looking for fun in their sexual activities and seek out vulnerable girls.”

Last month, former Home Secretary Jack Straw provoked fury after claiming some men of Pakistani origin view white girls as “easy meat”.

The Labour MP for Blackburn spoke out after two Asian men who abused girls in Derby were given indeterminate jail terms.

Research suggests about 55 per cent of British Pakistanis marry their first cousins, who are typically from abroad.

Marriages between first cousins is lawful in Britain, but they are generally frowned upon.

So there you go, marrying your cousin turns you into a sex mad paedophile according at least to Lord Ahmed. The truth is rather more brutal of course, these men behaved in a depraved manner because people in authority and in their own communities chose to look the other way. Yes some of the blame must also be laid at the feet of the parents of these children too, though in some instances at least they may not have been aware of what was going on, or even cared. But the vast majority of the blame has to be laid at the feet of these men who deliberately sought to target vulnerable children from other communities because they knew full well what would happen if they did target their own. There is no justification in the world for what they did, nor any excuse and Lord Ahmed would have done well to have simply continued his campaign to end first cousin marriages without trying to excuse or justify these perverts behaviour.
I am sick to death of this stupid blame game played out in the MSM and our political elite over the rape and prostitution of these young girls. I'm sick to death of the avoidance of the discussion of the amount of men queuing up to pay to molest these children, some in their 50's following the example of their sick prophet no doubt, after all if it was good enough for Mohammed... And well past the age where they're over the distress of being forced into marriage if they ever were. I'm sick to death of the term Asian being used to disguise the fact that this is a Pakistani Muslim problem. It's not a Sikh problem, it's not a Hindu problem it most certainly isn't a Chinese problem and they are all Asians and sick to death no doubt about being tarred with a Pakistani Muslim perversion. I'm sick to death of people like Taji Mustafa, media spokesperson of Hizb ut-Tahrir who objects to the claims that Islam had anything to do with the issue as various newspapers had claimed. He said:

"Islam promotes respect for women regardless of their race, religion and ethnicity. In Islam, you are not allowed to drink, take drugs, engage in pre-marital sex or even have a girlfriend. So how can Islam be blamed for these heinous crimes?"

 I suspect the fact that it was Muslims doing this that gives the game away, not Asians but Pakistani Muslims, despite the vast generalisation on the matter of who was actually doing it in the press and amongst politicians as well as the silence of various socialist groups like the SWP and the UAF who would be all over this if it was white guys preying on Muslim girls screaming racist no doubt. Since 1997, 56 people with an average age of 28 have been convicted of offences related to on-street grooming of girls aged 11 to 16. Of these, three were white and the rest Asian, of whom 50 were Muslim, with the majority British Pakistani, with more and more cases coming out of the woodwork. I'm totally sick of the stench of cover up as this seems to have been going on for years, even the fact that at the time the UK's youngest mum was only a mum because she was gang raped by Pakistani taxi drivers back in 2002 and still nothing was done other than for Labour to open the floodgates to even more immigration to rub the rights nose in multiculturalism. Well if this is one of the benefits of multiculturalism then count me out as a fan of it, not that I ever was, watching from the sidelines as all that was good about England was denigrated and contemptuously cast aside by Labour, the left and their pro British anti English mind set, which allowed this outrage to go on unchallenged until it could no longer be brushed under the mat and even then I reckon it would still be hidden and Jack Straw et al saying nothing and pretending the problem doesn't exist had not the Times finally got brave enough to do an article on it. I even remember Nick Griffin of the BNP being vilified  and prosecuted back in 2005 for saying it was going on. Since then the establishments, both legal and political, have ignored the continuing abuse and violence solely for their own benefit and to avoid getting accused of racism themselves. 

I am absolutely horrified by this, authorities across the country knew this was going on for many years yet did NOTHING significant to effect the cessation of these vile acts, but elected instead to hide them under blankets of secrecy! They were culpable in withholding relevant information that would have helped to protect our country's children from abuse at the hands of Muslim paedophile gangs.

What gets me as well, is that as soon as these scum have done their time they'll vanish back into their communities and not be despised like we would despise.

That this could happen in my England is the most damning verdict on the Labour years in power, not the war in Iraq, not the financial waste and irregularities, but the despoliation of young girls by an alien culture encouraged to settle here and aided and abetted by a wall of silence by the authorities.

On paper it sounds great and a lot of politicians including David Cameron put their names as support, however over the years it has become more and more apparent that Unite Against Fascism and their political master the Socialist Workers Party are a cancer on the body politic and those who wish for freedom and free speech. That's not to say that I oppose those who wish to protest, just not those who would attempt by violent means to silence their opponents. Members of Unite Against Fascism (UAF) waited for British National Party (BNP) leader Nick Griffin to arrive at the Frontline club in Paddington where he was due to hold a Q&A session on the documentary film 'The Battle of Barking'.

He arrived promptly at 1900 hours at which point many people ran towards him shouting 'GET HIM!!'

Mr. Griffin's security detail protected him with one spectacular scuffle in the street. They also used some sort of spray ink, which got one cameraman and one protester in the face.

Numerous police rushed to the scene.

I don't like the BNP myself, but as a legitimate political party they have the right particularly as two of their members are MEP's to meet and discuss things with their constituents.Griffin was speaking to people who wanted to hear him. He broke NO law and the Police should have protected his right to free speech, they didn't. As much as I detest Griffin, his party leadership and what they stand for they have the democratic right to hold view's that the great majority of this country find abhorrent and he has the right to voice his opinion as others have the right to hear them it is called freedom of speech. How can I oppose griffin if I am not allowed to hear what he has to say. This is the true danger of the UAF, they have stopped me hearing what he had to say so this morning I could not comment had I so desired and there was a strong possibility that my comments would not have been favourable. So instead of a blow for democracy the UAF have furthered the cause of fascism and again allowed the BNP to claim victim status as they were able to do on Question Time.
The UAF are also the same group who accuse the EDL of violence, yet actions like this reveal the UAF for what they are, fascist thugs who can't stand any sort of dissent, freedom of speech, freedom of thought or freedom of action.
No wonder so many politicians like them. By allowing this sort of thing to happen, by not arresting, prosecuting and jailing the perpetrators, the message extremist groups get is clear, violence and intimidation gets results.
Why the British government seems hellbent on allowing the spreading of that message far and wide is beyond my ability to comprehend.

It's rumoured (though not proven) that Winston Churchill said "The fascists of the future will call them selves anti fascists."

My flag is a flag not a religious symbol! update

Seems common sense has prevailed, in this case...

Inside the court 37-year-old Tilehurst man Ronald Peterson was on trial for religiously aggravated harassment. The court heard he went to the partially built mosque in Oxford Road, west Reading, on May 30 to protest over the way its planning application was handled by the borough council.

Peterson, with two other men, draped the St George’s flag on a fence, posed for pictures and chanted “E, E, E.D.L” and “England”.

Witness Urfan Azad, 32, told the court he was in the nearby Reading Tea House and went outside after hearing the chanting.

He said he dialled 999 because he was concerned the situation could escalate, and added: “My concern was the flag needed to be taken off the fence because it might be seen by Muslims as a religious symbol. I felt upset about the whole incident. I’m British myself, I was born in Reading. It’s made me feel a bit socially excluded.”

A MAN arrested after hanging a flag of St George outside a partially built mosque has had the case against him thrown out of court.

District judge Andrew Vickers dismissed the charge of religiously aggravated harassment against Ronald Peterson, from Tilehurst, at Reading Crown Court today (Thursday).

Mr Peterson, 37, a member of the English Defence League (EDL), was arrested on May 30 last year when a witness called the police after seeing him hang the flag on a fence outside the Oxford Road mosque in West Reading and hearing him chant “EDL” and “England”.

Judge Vickers said he did not believe Mr Peterson’s words were threatening, abusive or insulting or that he was motivated by religious hatred, and added: “Was the display of the St George’s flag a challenge to the Islamic faith? I do not find that beyond reasonable doubt.”

Speaking afterwards, Mr Peterson said: “I’m happy but I’m not happy because at the end of the day I shouldn’t have been in court in the first place.”

Well done that judge!

Good news, but it should not have even reached the court, flying the flag of your own country in your own country should never be classed as a crime!
Again it seems as if the law enforcement agencies in this country will fall over backwards to pander to those who cry of racist particularly if it comes from a member of the so called "religion of peace"
And they wonder why groups like the EDL are growing at an incredible rate.

Justice? I don't think so.

Asylum seekers are here on our good sufferance, we let them stay here because they may face persecution at home (the genuine ones anyway) In return we expect them to obey our laws and generally keep their noses clean, we don't expect them to kill people unlawfully and then be allowed to stay, well not unless you're a judge anyway.

An asylum-seeker who left a girl dying under the wheels of his car while banned from driving can stay in the UK, two immigration judge have ruled.

Iraqi Kurd Aso Mohammed Ibrahim was jailed for four months after knocking down Amy Houston in Blackburn in 2003.

Her father Paul Houston, from Darwen, told judges last month they had the power to bring his "seven years of hell to an end" by sending Ibrahim to Iraq.

But two senior immigration judges have now ruled he can remain in the UK.

The judges agreed with Ibrahim's legal team's case that his human rights would be impinged if he was sent back to Iraq.

And what about Amy Houston's human right not to be run down by a driver who was banned? Why should we allow an asylum seeking murderer* leave to remain here, I don't care if his human rights are infringed by sending him back to Iraq, he's already made it damned clear he doesn't give a shit about our human rights or laws!
And only 4 months for killing someone whilst banned? Justice has become a joke in this country and some out there wonder at the rise of the EDL when people like this just get a seemingly slap on the wrist and then to add insult to injury are allowed to stay!
Aso Mohammed Ibrahim, should have served 25 years, if possible transferred to an Iraqi jail, if not taken from prison after his sentence, put on a plane and dropped off at Baghdad airport and at the moment I'm of the opinion that dropped off should be at 25,000 feet!

*Call it manslaughter if you will, but killing someone whilst driving a car after you're banned puts it into the category of murder in my eyes.

Most people just want a quiet life, to be left alone to live as they please not harming anyone else. Then there are the thugs, yobs and other assorted ne'er-do-wells (I wont call them mindless, they are often ingenious in their petty maliciousness)

A TORMENTED householder on a yob-blighted estate was jailed yesterday for killing a man he caught urinating through his letterbox.

Michael Williams, 53, “just flipped” and stabbed father-of-one Anthony Kershaw, 25, after he caught him defiling his property.

Williams, who lived alone on the Smallbridge estate in Rochdale, had previously suffered a similar attack, and had paint thrown on his door.

Yesterday he wept as he was jailed for five years after admitting manslaughter at an earlier hearing. One night in April, ­Williams heard a bang on his front door as if someone was kicking at it to break in, Manchester Crown Court heard. He went to investigate and saw urine pouring through his letterbox,

In anger he went to his kitchen, grabbed a knife with a seven-inch blade and, as Kershaw urinated, swung the door open. In his own words he “just flipped” and stabbed his ­victim in the stomach.

Williams then rang his daughter and the police and confessed to what he had done while a baying mob tried to smash their way into his house screaming they would “burn him alive”.

Kershaw, who had been drinking and smoking cannabis in a flat in the same block before the incident, died later in hospital.

Prosecutor Peter Wright said Williams lived in an area where “extremely abusive” youths made trouble in ­the communal areas, leaving some res­idents despondent, ­intimidated, and at times frightened to go out.

Mr Justice Brian Keith told Williams: “Your reaction was not premeditated. Something snap­ped and you acted on the spur of the moment. Of course, I take into account that this was a frightening and ­intimidating estate to live on.”

Did Kershaw deserve to die? Probably not, however should Williams have even been prosecuted? No, the guy should have been praised as a lesson to all whose pleasure it is to make others lives a misery simply because they can. As for Kershaws mob, well they are the ones who should have been looking at 5 years today, not Williams, the very fact that Williams has been attacked in prison by Kershaw's "friends" tells me all I need to know about that waste of space.
Still the good news is of course that Kershaw can no longer pollute the gene pool, good riddance, the world is a better place without scum like that, just a shame Williams has to suffer the consequences of Kershaw's barbarity after all, what else can you call urinating through a letterbox? Whilst what happened to him was harsh, he brought it upon himself, Williams deserved better from out legal system, he was only defending his home from scum.

So, why move in there then?

There are some people out there who will move into a new home say next to an airport and decide that as it's noisy, the airport should shut down rather than move themselves. There's a similar problem in the village of Mayfield, East Sussex, where a couple who moved in 2 years ago are now complaining about the church clock bells ringing through the night, the bells of which have been ringing since 1887 and Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.

A row has erupted over a church clock which chimes every 15 minutes - after a couple used an iPhone app to discover it was disturbing their sleep.

Lucie Kinnell and partner Terry Godden used the Sleepcycle application which monitors their movements during the night.

The programme showed they were just falling into a deep slumber as the chimes went off.

The couple are spearheading a campaign in the sleepy village of Mayfield, East Sussex to get the 1,050-year-old St Dunstan's Church to switch the bongs off overnight.

Lucie and Terry have lived opposite the church in the leafy village for two years.

Church-goer Lucie, 24, who went to Sunday School at St Dunstan's, said today: 'I've written to the the vicar, father Nigel Prior, to tell him that the chimes are seriously affecting our sleep patterns.

'It's not just a simple bing bong every 15 minutes. When it hits midnight it does the whole bing-bong cycle and then bongs 12 times in a row and then repeats the bing-bong cycle.

It's driving us both mad. I found out what other villagers thought and a lot of them agree that it should be put on timer between 11pm and 6am.

'What is the point of it making a lot of noise at 2am?'

But instead of the vicar writing back, Miss Kinnell received a letter from the Parochial Church Council dismissing her request.

 "When I were a lad", I lived in Gateshead, right next to a railway marshalling yard, there were loud steam trains and diesels running about all the time at all hours. You got used to the noise, the only time we noticed it really was during a railway strike, when it wasn't there.
Now I'm all for getting a decent nights sleep, which means that were I to move somewhere I'd make damned sure that noise levels were acceptable at all hours of the day. For God's sake the woman went to the Sunday school there, didn't she know? The bells have been ringing for 123 years, they've lived there 2 years, if there were any justice in the UK they'd be told where to get off.

I'll not take bets on the bells going off at night sooner rather than later.
