The chance was there,
Yet the road not taken.
Bribe and betrayal.
The chance now gone,
No longer the Irish free.

Words taken in,
Promises broken.
Betrayed with words,
A failed manifesto.
Never so close again.

The wall has gone up,
The gate come down.
Never again,
Will the chance be.
For England to have her say.
